Free Image Flipper and Rotator
This free image flipper and rotator mirrors a picture left to right or top to bottom and turns it by 90, 180 or 270 degrees clockwise. It fixes sideways phone photos, scans saved upside down and selfies that came out mirrored. Upload up to 8 MB, check the preview and download the result. The file is processed in memory and never stored.

About this tool
A photo that opens on its side, a scan saved upside down or a selfie that reads backwards are small problems that block uploads and layouts. Flipping and rotating are lossless in meaning: no pixels are invented, they are just moved. This tool gives you both in one place, so a single pass fixes the picture.
Flip horizontal mirrors the picture left to right, as a mirror would, which also reverses any text in it. Flip vertical turns it top to bottom. Rotation is clockwise: 90 degrees turns a landscape picture into a portrait, 180 degrees turns it upside down, and 270 degrees is the same as 90 degrees anticlockwise. When you ask for both, the flip happens first and the rotation second.
Many phone photos carry a hidden rotation flag that some programs ignore. This tool reads that flag first, so what you see in your gallery is what you start from. The result is saved again as a new file, which removes metadata such as GPS location. Save as PNG for an exact copy of the pixels, or JPG and WebP for smaller files. Keep your original, since each lossy save adds a little damage.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between flipping and rotating?
Rotating turns the whole picture around its centre, like turning a printed photo on a table, so text stays readable in the new direction. Flipping makes a mirror image, so text is reversed. Use rotate to fix a sideways picture and flip to correct a mirrored one.
Which way does the rotation turn?
Clockwise. A choice of 90 degrees turns the top of the picture toward the right. 180 degrees turns it upside down, and 270 degrees turns it three quarters of a full turn clockwise, which is the same as one quarter turn anticlockwise.
Why does my phone photo look sideways after I upload it?
Phones often store the photo in one fixed direction and add a small note saying how to turn it. Some websites and programs ignore that note. Rotating the picture here and saving a new copy bakes the correct direction into the pixels, so it looks right everywhere.
Does rotating reduce image quality?
Turns by 90, 180 and 270 degrees move whole pixels, so nothing is blurred. Quality can only drop when the new file is saved in a lossy format such as JPG or WebP. Pick PNG, or a high quality setting, when you want the cleanest result.
Can I rotate an animated GIF?
The tool reads only the first frame of a GIF, so you get a still picture rather than an animation. For photos, PNG, JPG, WebP and BMP files all work. Uploads can be up to 8 MB, and the file is never stored on our server.
