Free Image Watermark Tool

This free image watermark tool writes your text, such as a name, a website or a copyright line, onto a photo. You choose the corner or centre, how see-through it is, how big it is and its colour, or repeat it across the whole picture. Uploads up to 8 MB are processed in memory and never stored, and you download the stamped copy.

About this tool

A watermark tells people who made a picture and where to find you, and it makes casual copying less tempting. Photographers, shop owners and bloggers add one before posting product shots, previews and portfolio work. This tool stamps plain text onto the picture in a clean sans serif font, so you can do it in seconds without an editor.

Pick a position for a single mark, or choose tiled to repeat the text diagonally across the whole picture, which is harder to crop out. Size is a percentage of the picture width, so the same setting looks right on a small and a large photo. Opacity controls how see-through the text is: 30 to 60 percent keeps the picture readable while the mark stays visible. Choose white on dark photos and black on light ones.

A watermark discourages casual reuse but cannot stop a determined person, so do not rely on it as your only protection. The text is drawn in Latin letters and numbers; symbols the font does not contain may not appear. The stamped copy is saved as a new file without camera metadata, so GPS location is removed. Always keep your unmarked original for your own use.

Frequently asked questions

How visible should a watermark be?

Visible enough to read, subtle enough not to spoil the picture. An opacity of 30 to 60 percent and a size of 5 to 15 percent of the width works for most photos. For stronger protection, tile the text across the picture, since a repeated mark is much harder to crop away.

Where should I place a watermark?

A bottom corner is the least distracting and is standard for portfolios and social posts. The centre is harder to crop out but covers more of the picture. Tiled placement is the strongest. Match the colour to the area underneath so the text stays readable.

Can I add a logo image as a watermark?

Not with this tool. It stamps text only, in a clean bold font. For a logo mark, a photo editor or design tool is the right choice. For text such as your name, your website address or a copyright line, this page does the job quickly.

Does a watermark stop people stealing my images?

It discourages casual copying and tells viewers where the picture came from, but it cannot prevent theft, and watermarks can be edited out. Use it alongside smaller preview sizes, clear licence terms and keeping your original files. Never rely on it as the only protection.

Is my photo stored after I add the watermark?

No. The file is held in memory while the text is added and discarded when the page finishes loading. It is not saved to disk or shared. The stamped copy shown in the result exists only on that page, so download it before you leave.
