About this tool
Enter the date of birth as day/month/year (25/12/1990) or year-month-day (1990-12-25). Leave the second date empty to measure age today, or fill it in to find the age on another date, for example an exam cut-off, a visa application date or the day a policy starts. Both dates are treated as plain calendar dates, so time zones do not shift the answer.
The age is counted the way people usually count it: complete years first, then complete months, then the remaining days. For a person born on 29 February, the tool places the birthday on 28 February in years that are not leap years.
Days lived is a handy number for milestones, such as the 10,000th day, and for filling forms that ask for age in days or months, which some hospital and insurance forms do. The figure counts whole days between the two dates. It does not include the time of birth, so it can be one day away from a count made to the hour.
Frequently asked questions
How is exact age calculated?
The tool counts the complete years since the date of birth, then the complete months after that, then the leftover days. If the birthday has not yet come round this year, one year is subtracted. This matches how age is stated on forms, in years, months and days.
Can I find age on a past or future date?
Yes. Fill in the second date box with the date you want to measure to, for example the first day of a school year or the last date to apply for a job. Leave it empty to use today's date. The result is the age on that date, not today.
What if I was born on 29 February?
Your birthday only exists in leap years. In other years this calculator places the next birthday on 28 February, and counts you a full year older on that day. Some legal systems use 1 March instead, so check the rule that applies to your form or contract.
How many days have I lived?
Enter your date of birth and the result shows the number of whole days between that date and today. The tool also shows the same span in weeks and in total months, which are the figures a few hospital, insurance and school forms ask for.
Does it work for dates before 1970?
Yes. The calculation uses calendar dates, not a timestamp counted from 1970, so a birth year such as 1938 works correctly. Dates are expected from the year 1 onward, and a date of birth in the future is rejected with a message.
