What Browser Am I Using?

This free browser checker tells you which browser and version you are using, your operating system, device type and rendering engine, plus the language and encoding settings your browser sends with every request. It reads the request headers on our server, so it works without JavaScript. Paste any user agent string to decode someone else's browser.

About this tool

Support teams ask "which browser are you on?" because a layout bug, a login loop or a broken video player often only happens in one browser or one version. Most people do not know the exact version, and menus differ from app to app. This page answers in one click, and gives you a line you can copy into a support ticket.

Every request your browser makes carries a User-Agent header that names the browser, its version, the operating system and sometimes the device. Newer browsers also send client hints (Sec-CH-UA headers) with the brand and platform. The checker reads those headers on the server and decodes them. Because the decoding happens on the server, it works with JavaScript switched off and in reader modes.

User agents are messy by design: every Chromium browser also claims to be Chrome and Safari, Windows 11 still reports itself as Windows 10, and an iPad in desktop mode says it is a Mac. The tool applies the usual rules in the right order, but it cannot see screen size, time zone, installed plugins or whether cookies are allowed, because only the browser knows those.

Frequently asked questions

Why does it say Windows 10 when I have Windows 11?

Windows 11 sends exactly the same user agent as Windows 10 ("Windows NT 10.0"). Microsoft froze that value for compatibility, so no website can tell the two apart from the user agent alone. The tool therefore shows "Windows 10 or 11".

How do I find my browser version in the browser itself?

In Chrome, Edge, Brave and Opera open the menu, then Help, then About. In Firefox open the menu, Help, About Firefox. In Safari on a Mac the version is under Safari, About Safari. On iPhone and iPad, Safari uses the iOS version shown in Settings, General, About.

Can you detect my screen resolution or time zone?

Not from the server: the browser does not send screen size, time zone, fonts or cookie settings in its request headers, and this tool deliberately runs without JavaScript so it works everywhere. Your browser's own developer tools (F12) show those values under the console.

What is a rendering engine?

The part of the browser that turns HTML and CSS into pixels. Chrome, Edge, Opera, Brave and Samsung Internet all use Blink; Firefox uses Gecko; Safari and every browser on iPhone and iPad use WebKit. If a page looks wrong, the engine often matters more than the brand name.

Is my user agent string private information?

It is sent to every website you visit, so it is not secret, but it does help websites tell visitors apart, which is why modern browsers have been trimming it. The tool shows it back to you and does not store it.
