What Is My IP Address?

This free tool shows the public IP address your connection is using right now, says whether it is IPv4 or IPv6, looks up its reverse DNS name and reads your browser, operating system and device from the request. Nothing is stored. Use it to confirm a VPN, share your address with support, or whitelist yourself on a firewall.

About this tool

Every device that talks to the internet does so from a public IP address, usually assigned by your internet provider or by the VPN you are connected to. Websites, firewalls and support teams often need it: to whitelist your office, to debug why a page blocks you, or to confirm that a VPN is really hiding your home address. This page shows the address the SEO SMO HUB server sees when your browser connects to it.

The address comes straight from the network connection, not from a script running in your browser, so it works with JavaScript switched off. The tool also looks up the reverse DNS name of the address (the host name your provider published for it) and reads the browser, operating system, device type and preferred language from the headers your browser sends with every request. You can type any other public address into the optional field to see its reverse DNS name instead.

If you are on a network that reaches the internet through a shared gateway or a VPN, the address shown belongs to that gateway, not to your device. Addresses can change when a router restarts or when you move between Wi-Fi and mobile data. For the country and city behind an address, use the bulk geo IP locator, which asks a location database.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my IP address different from the one on my computer?

Your computer shows its private address on the local network (often starting 192.168 or 10). Your router translates that into one public address that the whole network shares, and this page shows that public one. Only the public address is visible to websites.

Is my IP address IPv4 or IPv6?

IPv4 addresses look like 203.0.113.10, four numbers separated by dots. IPv6 addresses are longer, written in hexadecimal with colons, such as 2001:db8::1. Many connections have both; the one shown here is the one your browser chose to reach this site, which is usually IPv6 when your provider supports it.

Does a VPN change the IP address shown here?

Yes. With a VPN connected, websites see the address of the VPN server, not your own, so this page is a quick way to confirm the VPN is working. If you still see your usual address, the VPN tunnel is not active or your browser is bypassing it.

Do you store my IP address?

No. The address is read from the connection, shown to you and discarded. Our tools keep an hourly usage counter per visitor as a one-way hash so nobody can turn a free tool into a crawler, but the address itself is never written down.

What is a reverse DNS name?

It is the host name your internet provider or hosting company has attached to an address, the opposite of the usual name-to-address lookup. Home connections often show a generic name with the address encoded in it; servers usually show the mail or hosting name. Many addresses have no reverse name at all, which is normal.
