Domain Hosting Checker

This free domain hosting checker finds the IP address a domain points to, the company that owns that address block, its reverse DNS name, the name servers, the web server software and whether a CDN such as Cloudflare sits in front. It gives a best guess of the hosting provider from those signals. Use it to vet a competitor, a client or a supplier.

About this tool

Knowing who hosts a site answers practical questions: which company to contact about abuse, whether a competitor runs on a fast cloud or a cheap shared plan, whether a client's site sits in the country its visitors live in, and whether a CDN is hiding the real server. Hosting companies rarely advertise their customers, so the answer has to be pieced together from public records.

The checker looks up the domain's A and AAAA records with the system resolver, finds the reverse DNS name of the first address, asks the regional internet registry (through RDAP) which organisation holds that address block, lists the name servers, and makes one small request to the site to read its Server header and any CDN headers. The hosting name shown is a best guess from those four signals, and the raw records are shown so you can judge it yourself.

When a site is behind Cloudflare, Fastly, Akamai or a similar network, every public signal points at the CDN and the origin server stays hidden, which is the whole point of a CDN. In that case the tool says so instead of guessing. Shared hosting plans also show the hosting company's name, not the reseller you may have paid.

Frequently asked questions

How does the tool know who hosts a website?

Every public IP address belongs to a block that a regional internet registry has assigned to a company, and that record is public. The tool resolves the domain to its address, reads the block owner from the registry, and combines it with the reverse DNS name, the name servers and the Server header to name the provider.

Why does it say Cloudflare instead of the real host?

Cloudflare, like other CDNs, publishes its own addresses for the domain and forwards traffic to the real server privately. From the outside only Cloudflare is visible. The origin host can sometimes be guessed from the name servers or from subdomains such as mail or ftp that bypass the CDN, but there is no public record that reveals it.

Does the hosting provider affect SEO?

Only through speed and reliability. Google does not reward one host over another, but a slow or often-down server hurts rankings through poor Core Web Vitals and crawl errors. Hosting close to your visitors, or a CDN, usually improves response time, which you can measure with the page speed checker.

Can I find the hosting company from the name servers?

Often, yes. Name servers such as ns1.hostgator.com or dns1.registrar-servers.com point at the DNS provider, which is frequently also the host. But many sites use Cloudflare or their registrar for DNS and a different company for hosting, so the tool treats name servers as one clue among several.

What does the Server header tell me?

The web server software: nginx, Apache, LiteSpeed, Microsoft-IIS or a CDN name such as cloudflare. Managed WordPress hosts and CDNs often replace it with their own brand, which is itself a useful clue. Many servers hide the version number on purpose, which is good practice.
