Free PDF to Word Converter
This free converter turns a PDF into an editable Word (DOCX) file using LibreOffice on our server. It works best on PDFs made from documents, where the text is real text. Scanned pages are pictures and are not turned into text. Expect to adjust the layout a little. Your PDF is deleted straight after.

About this tool
You received a PDF and need to change it: fix a typo in an old contract, reuse a table in a report, update a price list. Retyping is slow and error prone. Converting the PDF to a Word file gives you text you can edit in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice.
The conversion is done by LibreOffice, which reads the PDF page by page and rebuilds it as a document. Plain text, headings and simple tables usually come across well. Complex layouts with many columns, text boxes or special fonts will need tidying, because a PDF stores where each word sits on a page and not how paragraphs flow. This is true of every converter.
Only PDFs with a real text layer can be converted. A scan or a photo of paper is a picture, and turning it into text requires OCR software, which this tool does not include. Password protected PDFs must be unlocked first with the Unlock PDF tool. There is no PowerPoint output: the old PDF to PowerPoint pages now lead here, as Word is the closest editable format we offer. Uploads can be up to 20 MB, 60 seconds per file, 20 files per hour.
Frequently asked questions
Will the Word file look exactly like the PDF?
Not exactly. A PDF fixes where every word sits, while Word flows text in paragraphs. Simple documents convert cleanly. Pages with many columns, text boxes, or unusual fonts will need some tidying after conversion.
Can I convert a scanned PDF?
No. A scan is a picture of a page, so there is no text to carry over. You would need OCR (optical character recognition) software for that, and this tool does not include it.
Can I convert a PDF to PowerPoint or Excel?
Not here. This tool produces Word (DOCX) files only. If you need slides, convert the pages to pictures with the PDF to Image tool and place them on slides.
Why did the conversion fail?
Common reasons are a password protected PDF, a damaged file, a file that takes more than 60 seconds to process, or a very complex layout. Try the Unlock PDF tool first, or split the file and convert it in parts.
Is my PDF stored?
No. Your file is written to a private temporary folder, processed for the length of the request and deleted straight after, whether the job worked or not. We do not keep copies, build a library of uploads or read the content of your documents.
