About this tool

Before you print, upload or send a PDF, a few facts matter. How many pages does it have, will it print on A4 or Letter, is it protected, and which program made it? A page counter and info viewer answers those in seconds, without installing software or opening a large file.

The tool reads the file with pdfinfo from the poppler library. The page size is shown in points and in millimetres, where one point is 1/72 inch, and named when it matches a standard such as A4 or Letter. Encryption details tell you whether printing, copying and editing are allowed. Metadata such as title, author and dates comes from fields the creating program wrote, so it can be empty or wrong.

Nothing in the file is changed. If you want to change the title or author, use the PDF Metadata Editor on this site. A file protected with an open password cannot be read until it is unlocked, and the tool tells you when that is the case. Uploads can be up to 20 MB.

Frequently asked questions

How do I count the pages of a PDF?

Upload the file and run the tool. The page count is the first number in the result. It reads the page tree stored in the file, so it is exact for normal PDFs and works for large files too.

What does the page size mean?

It is the size of the first page in points, where 72 points equal one inch, with millimetres alongside. A4 is about 595 by 842 points and US Letter is 612 by 792. Pages in one file can have different sizes.

Can I see who created the PDF?

The author and creator fields show what the program that made the file wrote. They can be empty, outdated or edited, so do not treat them as proof of origin. The Producer field names the software that created the final PDF.

What does encrypted mean here?

It means the file uses a password system. Some files need a password to open, others open freely but limit printing, copying or editing. The result lists what is allowed. The Unlock PDF tool can remove a known password.

Is my PDF stored?

No. Your file is written to a private temporary folder, processed for the length of the request and deleted straight after, whether the job worked or not. We do not keep copies, build a library of uploads or read the content of your documents.
