About this tool

The rates come from the European Central Bank reference data, published each working day by Frankfurter, a free public service. They are reference rates, not the rate a bank, card network or money transfer service will give you. Those add a margin or a fee, so the amount that lands in your account is usually a little lower than the figure shown here. Use the result to plan and compare, then check the final quote with your provider.

The European Central Bank does not publish the UAE dirham or the Saudi riyal. Both are fixed to the US dollar by their central banks, at 3.6725 dirhams and 3.75 riyals per dollar, so this tool converts them through the dollar using those fixed values. The date shown next to the rate is the date of the underlying reference data, and rates are kept for up to 12 hours so repeated conversions are fast.

For agencies like ours, a converter is part of daily pricing. Many of our packages are quoted in US dollars and shown in rupees, and we use the same live rate for that conversion. If you invoice overseas clients, convert at the rate on the invoice date and note the date next to the figure, so your books and the client's agree later.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the exchange rate come from?

The rate is the European Central Bank reference rate, served by the free Frankfurter service and updated on working days. It is a mid-market reference, not a rate you can trade at. For the dirham and the riyal the tool uses their official fixed link to the US dollar instead.

Why is my bank rate different from this rate?

Banks, card networks and transfer services add a margin to the reference rate or charge a fee on top, and they quote their own rate at the moment of the transaction. The reference rate shown here is the starting point, so expect the final amount to be somewhat lower when you buy a currency.

How often is the rate updated?

The European Central Bank publishes new reference rates once per working day, around the middle of the afternoon in Central European time. The tool keeps each pair for up to 12 hours, so you always see the latest published rate and its date, which is shown under the result.

Can I convert INR to USD and back?

Yes. Pick INR as the first currency and USD as the second, enter the amount and convert. To go the other way, swap the two selections. The table of common amounts under the result is handy for quick mental checks, such as what 100 or 1,000 units are worth.

Is the UAE dirham rate live?

The dirham is fixed to the US dollar at 3.6725 dirhams per dollar, so its value against the dollar does not move. Against other currencies it follows the live dollar rate, so converting INR to AED uses today's INR to USD reference rate and the fixed dirham value.
