Free XML Sitemap Generator

An XML sitemap generator crawls your website and writes the sitemap.xml file search engines use to find your pages. This free generator crawls up to 50 pages, respecting robots.txt and nofollow, keeps only the pages worth indexing, lists every page it saw with its status, and explains how to submit the file to Google and Bing.

About this tool

The crawler starts at the address you enter, reads robots.txt first, and follows ordinary HTML links on the same host, one page at a time. It skips links marked nofollow, files such as images and PDFs, admin and login paths, and anything robots.txt disallows for all crawlers. Pages that answer with an error, redirect elsewhere, carry a noindex tag or point their canonical at another URL are listed in the table but left out of the sitemap, because a sitemap should only contain the final, indexable address of each page.

Google ignores the changefreq and priority values, so both are optional here, and lastmod is only added when your server sends a Last-Modified date. Search engines trust lastmod only when it is accurate, so an honest date or none at all is better than today's date on every page.

About the 50 page limit: many people search for an unlimited sitemap generator, and we would rather be clear than promise one. Crawling thousands of pages from a shared free tool is slow and hard on your server, and a site that size should never depend on a one-off file anyway, because the sitemap goes stale the day you publish the next page. WordPress creates one at /wp-sitemap.xml, and SEO plugins such as Yoast or Rank Math add their own; Shopify, Wix and most other platforms generate one automatically. For small business sites, landing page sets and new blogs, 50 pages covers everything. Whatever you use, list the sitemap in robots.txt and submit it in Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I upload the sitemap.xml file?

Save the XML as sitemap.xml and upload it to the root folder of your website, the same folder as your homepage, so it opens at yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml. Add a line "Sitemap: https://yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml" to robots.txt, then submit the address in Google Search Console under Indexing, Sitemaps, and in Bing Webmaster Tools.

Why are some of my pages missing from the sitemap?

The generator leaves out pages that return errors, redirect to another address, carry a noindex tag, point their canonical tag elsewhere, or are blocked by robots.txt, because search engines should not index them. It also only finds pages linked from other pages. The table shows every page it saw and why each was left out.

Is there a free sitemap generator with unlimited pages?

Not a trustworthy one: crawling a large site takes real server time, so free tools either cap the pages or crawl badly. This generator stops at 50 pages. Larger sites already have a better option: the sitemap your CMS generates and updates automatically, such as WordPress's /wp-sitemap.xml or the one from Yoast or Rank Math. Use that and submit it once.

How many pages can it crawl?

Up to 50 pages per run, within 20 seconds, fetched one at a time so your server is never flooded. Each page counts toward the hourly fair-use limit of our free tools, so a full crawl uses most of an hour's allowance. For bigger sites, use your CMS sitemap or a desktop crawler.

Does a sitemap help my site rank?

Not directly. A sitemap helps search engines discover and recrawl your pages, which matters most for new sites, big sites and pages with few internal links. It does not make a page rank higher. Keep it accurate, list only indexable final URLs, and spend the saved effort on content and internal links.
