About this tool
PNG is the best picture format for pages that are mostly text, tables, charts or logos. It compresses without losing detail, so letters stay sharp and flat colours stay clean, which JPG can smear. That makes PNG the right choice for screenshots of documents, slide images and diagrams.
Pages are drawn by poppler, a trusted open source PDF renderer. Pick 72 dpi for a small preview, 150 dpi for a sharp image on screen, or 300 dpi when you want detail for print or zooming in. Higher resolution gives larger files and slower jobs, and the job must finish within 30 seconds.
Each run converts up to 30 pages, and the page box accepts a range such as 5-8 for longer files. PNG files are bigger than JPG, so pages full of photos may produce a heavy ZIP; the PDF to JPG tool is better for those. Password protected PDFs need the Unlock PDF tool first.
Frequently asked questions
When should I choose PNG over JPG?
Choose PNG for text, tables, charts, logos and line art, where sharp edges matter. Choose JPG for photo heavy pages where a smaller file is more important than perfect edges.
Can I get a transparent background?
No. PDF pages are drawn on a white page, so the PNG has a white background. If you need to remove the background afterwards, use an image editor.
Why is my ZIP so large?
PNG does not discard detail, so pages with photos or gradients make big files, and 300 dpi makes them bigger still. Lower the resolution to 150 or 100 dpi, or use the JPG version of this tool.
How many pages can I convert?
Up to 30 pages per run. For a longer PDF, run the tool again with a different range in the page box, such as 31-60.
Are my files stored?
No. Your file is written to a private temporary folder, processed for the length of the request and deleted straight after, whether the job worked or not. We do not keep copies, build a library of uploads or read the content of your documents.
