Free Meta Tag Generator

A meta tag generator writes the HTML head tags a web page needs, correctly formatted. Fill in the fields and this free generator returns the title, meta description, robots, canonical, viewport, Open Graph and X card tags as clean code to paste into your page, with warnings when a title or description is likely to be cut off.

About this tool

Every value you enter is escaped for HTML, so quotes and ampersands in a title cannot break your page. The Open Graph fields are optional: leave them empty and the generator reuses your title, description and canonical URL, which is what most pages should do anyway. Social platforms need an absolute image URL, ideally 1200 by 630 pixels, to show a large preview card.

Two tags cause most of the problems we find. The meta keywords tag is ignored by Google for ranking and tells competitors exactly which terms you target, so leave it empty unless your own site search uses it. The robots tag is the dangerous one: a "noindex" left behind after a redesign can keep pages out of search results for months, and it is one of the first things we check when a site loses traffic.

When SEO SMO HUB takes on a new client, the head tags are part of the first audit. We write a unique title and description for every important page, add a self-referencing canonical, and set Open Graph tags so links shared on WhatsApp, LinkedIn and Facebook show a proper preview instead of a random image. Use the meta tag analyzer afterwards to confirm the tags landed in the live page.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write a good title tag and meta description?

Lead the title with the words people search for, keep it between 50 and 60 characters, and make it describe the page honestly. Write the description as a 120 to 155 character answer to the searcher's question with one clear benefit; it does not affect rankings but it decides whether people click. Keep both unique on every page.

Do meta keywords still matter for SEO?

No. Google has said publicly that it does not use the meta keywords tag for web ranking, and Bing does not rely on it either. The tag is harmless, but it shows competitors the terms you are targeting. This generator includes it only if you fill the field in, and labels it clearly as optional.

Where do I paste the generated meta tags?

Paste them inside the head section of your page, between the opening and closing head tags, replacing any older versions of the same tags so each appears only once. On WordPress, an SEO plugin usually manages these tags for you, so enter the same values in the plugin's fields instead of editing the theme.

Why is my title shown differently in Google?

Google rewrites titles it considers too long, stuffed with keywords or a poor match for the search, often using the page's main heading instead. Keeping the title under about 60 characters, describing the page honestly and making it agree with the H1 gives Google the best reason to show the title you wrote.
