Get Source Code of a Webpage

This free source code viewer fetches a web page from our server and shows its raw HTML exactly as the server sends it, before any JavaScript runs, in a copyable box. It also counts the title, meta tags, scripts, stylesheets, images and links. Use it on a phone, on a locked-down computer, or to see what search engines receive.

About this tool

Every browser can show a page's source, but not always when you need it: phones hide the option, some corporate machines block developer tools, and a page that rewrites itself with JavaScript shows a different source in the browser from what the server sent. SEO work in particular needs the server version, because that is what crawlers and AI engines read first.

The viewer requests the URL from the SEO SMO HUB server with a normal browser user agent, follows up to three redirects, and shows the response body as received, limited to the first 500 KB. It parses the HTML to count the title tag, meta tags, external and inline scripts, stylesheets, images and links, so you can spot bloat at a glance. The box is plain text: nothing in it is executed.

Pages that build their content with JavaScript show only the shell here, which is exactly what a crawler sees before rendering. Pages behind a login, a cookie wall or bot protection return the barrier page instead. Nothing is cached or stored: the source is shown to you and discarded.

Frequently asked questions

How do I view the source code of a website on my phone?

Paste the address into this tool. Mobile browsers mostly hide the view-source option (Chrome on Android accepts view-source: before the address, Safari on iPhone does not). This page shows the same server-sent HTML on any device, with a copy button.

Why does the source here differ from Inspect Element in my browser?

Inspect Element shows the live DOM after JavaScript has run and the browser has fixed up the markup. This tool shows the raw HTML the server sent, which is what search engine crawlers fetch first. On JavaScript-heavy sites the two can look completely different.

Can I view the source of a page that needs a login?

No. The request comes from our server without your cookies, so you see what a logged-out visitor sees, usually the login page. The same applies to pages behind paywalls or bot protection such as Cloudflare challenges.

Is viewing a website's source code legal?

Yes. The HTML is sent to every visitor and viewing it is how browsers work; every browser has a built-in option for it. Copying someone else's design, content or code into your own site is a different matter and may breach copyright.

Why is the source cut off at 500 KB?

HTML documents above half a megabyte are rare and usually a sign of a problem (inline scripts, huge menus, page builders), and the tool keeps every fetch light. The counts still cover what was received, and the result says when the page was cut. The page size checker reports the full size.
