Free Short Link Generator
This free short link generator turns a long web address into a short link on this site, in the form /go/ followed by a random 6 character code. Paste the address, press the button and copy the link. Each short link keeps working for 180 days and then expires. There are no custom aliases, no sign-up and no tracking pixels. Creating links is limited per visitor to prevent abuse.

About this tool
Short links are easier to read out, print on a flyer, put in a social bio or type from a phone screen. A long address with campaign tags is awkward in all of those places. This tool stores the destination on this site and gives you a short address that redirects to it.
To keep the service useful and safe, a few rules apply. Only public web addresses starting with http or https are accepted, addresses on private networks and on this site's own short links are refused, codes are random so a link cannot be guessed from its neighbours, and every link expires 180 days after it is made. Creating links is limited per visitor each hour. Short links send a no-index header so they do not appear in search results.
Plan around the expiry: for anything you print or publish for the long term, such as packaging or a book, use your own domain or a service with permanent links. For campaigns, QR codes and social posts lasting a few months, a 180 day link is enough. Links to abusive or harmful pages are removed, and the destination is stored on this site as plain text so we can do that.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a short link last?
Exactly 180 days from the moment it is created. After that the short address stops redirecting and shows a not found page. Create a new link if you still need one, and use your own domain for anything that must last longer.
Can I choose my own alias?
No. The code is random, six characters made of lowercase letters and digits, which keeps links unguessable and avoids clashes and impersonation. If you need a branded short link, use a custom domain with your own link service.
Does the tool track clicks?
No. The tool stores the destination, the creation date and the expiry date and nothing about visitors. It does not count clicks. If you need click numbers, add campaign tags with the UTM link builder and read them in your analytics.
Why was my address refused?
Only public http and https addresses are accepted. Addresses to private networks, to localhost, and to this site's own short links are refused, and so are addresses with a username or password in them. Check the spelling of the address and try again.
Is there a limit on links?
Yes. To prevent abuse, each visitor can create a limited number of links per hour. If you reach it, wait a while and try again. Links you already made keep working until they expire.
