Free Markdown to HTML Converter
This free converter turns Markdown into clean HTML you can paste into a page or a CMS. It supports headings, paragraphs, bold, italic, links, inline and fenced code, ordered and unordered lists, blockquotes, horizontal rules and tables. You get the HTML in a copyable box and a rendered preview. Raw HTML in your text is escaped, so the output is safe to look at.

About this tool
Markdown is a quick way to write structure: a hash for a heading, asterisks for emphasis, hyphens for a list. Many editors, README files and notes apps use it, but a website or email template needs HTML. This converter does that step for you and shows the result as both code and a preview.
The renderer is a small, deliberately limited implementation written for this site. It handles the everyday syntax listed above, and anything else is left as plain text rather than guessed. All text is escaped before formatting, so a script tag typed into the input is displayed as text and never turned into live HTML, and link targets are limited to web addresses, email links, page anchors and site paths.
Because it covers a subset, very advanced Markdown such as footnotes, task lists, definition lists or embedded HTML will not be converted the way a full library would. For long documents with those features, use a full Markdown library in your build. Nothing you paste is stored.
Frequently asked questions
Which Markdown features are supported?
Headings from one to six hashes, paragraphs, bold, italic, strikethrough, inline code, fenced code blocks, links, ordered and unordered lists with simple nesting, blockquotes, horizontal rules and pipe tables. Footnotes, task lists, images and embedded HTML are not converted.
Is the HTML output safe?
Yes for display. All text is escaped before it is formatted, raw HTML in the input appears as text, and links that start with javascript or other unusual schemes are not turned into links. You should still sanitise any user-submitted Markdown on your own server before storing it.
Why does my list or table not render?
Lists need a blank line before them and a hyphen, asterisk, plus sign or number followed by a space. Tables need a header row, then a separator row of hyphens such as |---|---|, and the same number of cells on each line. Check those two points first.
Can I use the HTML in WordPress or an email?
Yes. Copy the HTML from the box and paste it into the Custom HTML or code view of your editor. Email clients ignore some styling, so the plain tags produced here are a safe base that you can style with your own template.
