Free Vertical Text Generator
A vertical text generator stacks your text so it reads from top to bottom instead of left to right. Type a word or phrase and choose a layout: one character per line, words separated by blank lines, an L-shape layout that writes the word across and down, or bottom to top. The result is plain text you can paste into a bio, caption, chat or design.

About this tool
Vertical text is simply each character placed on its own line, which works anywhere that line breaks are kept, such as Instagram captions, WhatsApp, X posts, Discord and Reddit. The tool does the line breaks for you and removes the effort of pressing Enter after every letter. Choose the word separation layout to keep phrases readable, with a blank line between words.
The L-shape layout writes the text across the top and then repeats it down from the first letter, which suits names and short labels. Reading upward flips the order so the first letter ends at the bottom, a style used for spine text and side banners. If your platform strips spaces at the start of lines, the L-shape layout may lose its alignment, so use a monospace style where you can.
Keep it short. Vertical text is hard to read beyond a few words, and screen readers read each line as a separate item, which makes long vertical passages tiring for blind users. Treat it as a decorative accent for a name, a number or a slogan of a few letters, and keep real information in normal horizontal text.
Frequently asked questions
How do I write vertically on Instagram or WhatsApp?
Type your text above, choose "One character per line" and generate. Copy the result and paste it into your caption or message. The line breaks are kept by Instagram, WhatsApp, X, Facebook and most chat apps, so the letters appear stacked from top to bottom.
Can I keep spaces between words?
Yes. The layout with blank lines between words keeps each word as its own vertical column of letters and separates words by an empty line, so the phrase is still easy to read. Without it, spaces are shown as an empty line too, but in one continuous stack.
What does the L-shape layout do?
It prints your word across the first line and then continues down with the remaining letters, sharing the first letter, so you get an L-shaped block. It is useful for names, banners and decorative headings. It works best with short words and a monospace font.
Is vertical text accessible?
Not very. Screen readers read each line as a separate item, so a long vertical passage becomes a list of single letters. Use it only for a short decorative accent and put the same information in normal text nearby.
Does it work with emoji and other languages?
Yes. The tool splits text into whole visible characters, so emoji, accented letters and scripts such as Devanagari are placed on their own lines without being broken apart. Some scripts join letters into clusters, and those clusters stay together as one unit.
